One of the best attributes of both venues is the availability of permanent stalls that are situated on the main show grounds in close proximity to the show rings. In Ocala, stall sales are nearly full, while in Thermal, thanks to the new six-week schedule and discounted circuit rates, stalls are also selling very quickly. In addition to permanent stalls, both venues also feature roomy tent stalls constructed of wood and steel dividers that are clean and safe for horses, and they have been very popular since their debut in Saugerties two years ago. Full Story

Thermal, CA – November 10, 2009 – HITS is pleased to announce that they will host the Dressage Getaway, CDI*** during week III of the 2010 HITS Desert Circuit in Thermal, CA. The show, held on February 12-14, will feature a full schedule of national and high performance dressage classes. The 2010 HITS Desert Circuit in Thermal, CA, will have six weeks of hunter/jumper competition from January 26 to March 14.

During the Dressage Getaway competition, the CSI jumpers and CDI dressage horses will share the indoor warm-up ring and indoor show arena for their top classes on alternating days, in a similar schedule to the highly successful World Cup Finals held in Las Vegas.

Regina Antonioli, the manager of the Del Mar CDI show for the past 15 years, is the show manager for Dressage Getaway. “We were very excited when Tom Struzzieri (HITS President and CEO) offered us his facility,” she said. “We hope to make it a very European-type experience for riders with jumpers and dressage horses together. It’s a great opportunity for spectators to see not only top jumpers, but also top dressage horses.”

“Hosting the Dressage Getaway will be a nice addition to our Thermal circuit,” said Struzzieri. “It’s the first time we’ll have another event taking place during the circuit in Thermal. In Saugerties we’ve hosted the NEDA Fall Festival/CDI-W Region 8 Championships for several years during the Marshall & Sterling Finals with much success. It will be exciting to have both the hunter/jumper and dressage exhibitors come together at the same time, especially since it’s also a FEI World Cup week for the jumpers. It will be a great weekend, and we are looking forward to help make this show a great success.”

The highlight of the CDI competition will be a full day of freestyle competition on Sunday. Grand Prix dressage will be held on Friday evening, while all of the national classes will run in the outdoor ring.

The Sponsor Pavilion will provide hospitality every day, and there will be a welcome party during the jog on Thursday for dressage riders. A VIP brunch will be held in conjunction with the Freestyle competition on Sunday.

Along with watching dressage legends Hilda Gurney and Charlotte Bredahl score the riders as judges, fans of dressage can look forward to seeing 2009 World Cup Finals champion Steffen Peters and Olympic dressage rider Guenter Seidel compete at the event.

The Dressage Getaway, CDI*** is the first high-level dressage show held in 2010 on the West Coast. “It is a very nice opportunity,” Antonioli said. “It’s great to have a high-rated show earlier in the year so they’re not all bunched up in the spring. This show will help riders tremendously in their quest to qualify for the World Equestrian Games (WEG). With so many riders wanting to go to the WEG in the United States, that is the big concentrating factor for riders. By offering this extra rated event, it gives high performance dressage riders even more opportunity to get their scores for the WEG.”

The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (USEF) is pleased to announce the launch of the USEF Dressage Youth/Pony Pilot Program for Fall 2009.This program is designed to seek out, educate and assist the development of the young riders, and will be under the direction of Lendon Gray, appointed by the USEF Dressage High Performance Committee.

“I am thrilled that USEF is going to help to develop the best equitation and riding skills in our younger riders,” Gray said. “It is so much easier to develop correct riding from the early ages than to try to change bad habits later.”

The Pilot Program will consist of clinics held throughout the United States, which will be conducted by Gray, and high-performance athletes such as Michael Barisone, Pam Goodrich, Arlene “Tuny” Page and David Wightman. “The clinics will include emphasis on position and seat, technical skills, and riding and stable management theory,” continued Gray.

The clinics will be available to youth 20 years old and under with a special emphasis on riders ages 10 to 17. In order to meet the minimum requirements to participate, riders ages 10-15 on a horse or pony should have obtained a 62% or high from two different judges at First Level and above. Riders ages 16-17 should have obtained 62% or higher from two different judges at Third Level and above. If space permits, clinics will be open to riders 18-20 who have obtained 62% or higher from two different judges at Fourth Level and above. Youth riders who do not qualify, as well as instructors, are encouraged to audit these clinics (organizers may charge an auditing fee). There will be up to ten (10) riders at each clinic.

The following are clinic dates and locations for the USEF Youth/Pony Pilot Program:

Instructor Location Dates
Lendon Gray Carson City, MI November 14-15, 2009
Pamela Goodrich Boscawen, NH November 21-22, 2009
Lendon Gray Newtown, PA November 21-22, 2009
Arlene “Tuny” Page Wellington, FL November 21-22, 2009
Michael Barisone Long Valley, NJ December 5-6, 2009
Lendon Gray Marion, TX December 19-20, 2009
David Wightman Murrieta, CA December 19-20 Lendon Gray Kansas City, MO January 9-10, 2010

Any rider interested in the clinic must apply through the USEF Dressage Department. The application is available on the USEF website Dressage Page (www.usef.org/_IFrames/breedsDisciplines/discipline/allDressage.aspx)
Applications for November clinics close October 28, 2009 and applications for December clinics close November 11, 2009.

For further information, please contact: Jenny Van Wieren, USEF Assistant Director of Dressage, at jvanwieren@usef.org or (859)225-6949.
