Wynonna Judd to Perform at Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

Wynonna Judd will welcome the world to Kentucky with a special performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The 2010 Games will feature world championship competitions in eight equestrian sports at the Kentucky Horse Park from September 25-October 10. The Games will be the largest sporting event in America this year and are renowned to be the world’s most prestigious equestrian competition.

On the evening of September 25, Judd will perform “My Old Kentucky Home” in a pinnacle moment of the Opening Ceremonies.

“I could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to return home to my roots. Kentucky holds such a sacred place in my heart and to have this honor to share the home I so dearly love with my friends and family brings me great joy,” Judd remarked.

As a native Kentuckian, Judd will bring a local flavor to an international audience.

“Wynonna Judd represents what is best about Kentucky and our musical heritage,” said Governor Steve Beshear. “I am so proud that she will be honoring our Commonwealth by lending her voice to our state song.” Read more

The 2010-2011 United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) International Hunter Derby schedule is now available online at www.ushja.org/IHD/search.aspx. The 2010-2011 series begins June 2, 2010 and ends June 2, 2011. The USHJA International Hunter Derby Series was created to bring show hunters to the international level, to increase spectator, media and sponsorship interest, and to bring tradition and basic riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters. 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival Week Eight Wrap-Up

The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) was full of top competition during week eight, held March 3-7, 2010. The week featured the USEF Selection Trials for the U.S. Show Jumping Team for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games #3, #4, and #5, presented by Fidelity Investments, and the $75,000 FEI Nations Cup, presented by CN, along with a full schedule of hunter, jumper, and equitation classes. The week eight title sponsor was CN.

The $150,000 CN U.S. Open Grand Prix, CSIO**** was Sunday’s highlight event and Laura Kraut with Cedric, owned by Happy Hill Farm, were victorious. Second place went to Beezie Madden and Danny Boy, owned by Abigail Wexner, while Nicole Shahinian-Simpson was third with Tristan, owned by Ilan Ferder and Tal Milstein. Nearly 3,000 spectators turned out to watch the grand prix, which also incorporated the USEF WEG Trial #5.

For the USEF WEG Selection Trials, the final leader was Shahinian-Simpson on Tristan, who finished with just nine faults over the five trials. In second place for the trials were Richard Spooner and Show Jumping Syndicate’s Cristallo, who had 14 total faults. Mario Deslauriers and Urico, owned by Jane Clark, sat in third with 16 total faults, tied with Beezie Madden and Danny Boy. Read more

HITS Ocala celebrated another action-packed week of AA-rated competition featuring the best in show jumping, as the Ocala Tournament wrapped up on Sunday, March 7.

Members from the Marion County Chamber of Commerce enjoyed an outing at HITS Post Time Farm on Thursday and had the opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement and energy that makes Marion County and Ocala, FL, an internationally recognized location for horse lovers from around the world to meet and compete. Aaron Vale reminded everyone this week why he’s still one of the best competitors in the country when he captured Thursday’s $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, aboard Paparazzi. He then made it to the jump-off in Sunday’s $50,000 Ring Power Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, where he took fifth. Paparazzi looks to be the horse that may lead Vale to qualify for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix, which takes place September 12, 2010, at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, NY. Read more

FEI World Cup™ Dressage Releases Revised List for Final

The line-up for the final of the 2009/2010 FEI World Cup™ Dressage series, which will take place at ’s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, March 25-27 has been revised. The USA and Canadian Federations have confirmed that, due to health issues for either horses or riders, there will be no representatives from the North American League, so the two available slots will now be taken by reserve riders Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven from Sweden and Poland’s Katarzyna Milczarek, who previously applied for any available extra starting places.

Both of these riders became eligible through meeting the criteria laid down for participation at the final, which includes the necessity to have competed in at least three qualifiers and the achievement of a score of at least 68.0% on each occasion.

As the reigning Olympic and nine-time World Cup title-holder Anky van Grunsven from The Netherlands has not qualified this year and the 2008/2009 FEI World Cup™ Dressage series winner Steffen Peters of the USA has decided not to defend his title, a new champion will be crowned in the Brabanthallen at ’s-Hertogenbosch in two weeks time. John French entered last week’s $10,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derby as a heavy favorite, and during the popular two-round classic, he showed exactly why when he captured the top two places in the class to conclude a fabulous week during Desert Circuit V at the HITS Desert Horse Park, in Thermal, CA.

French, from Gilroy, CA, took the top placing aboard Lisa Martinez-Bates’ Brego and was also second aboard Yellow Dog, LLC’s Crown Affair en route to collecting $5,000 in prize money for the afternoon. So far during the 2010 HITS Desert Circuit, French has won three blue ribbons in the weekly $10,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derbies and has taken the top honors in the $10,000 Chronicle of the Horse/United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) International Hunter Derby. The Horse Emergency Response Operation (HERO) project offers an innovative approach to dealing with the spike in cases of horse neglect brought on by the convergence of job losses, foreclosures, and dramatic increases in the cost of feed, hay, and veterinary services.

With animal control budgets already stretched to the max and so few people with facilities or means to take in horses, thousands of well-meaning owners are finding themselves unable to provide for their horses, leading to a surge in cases of neglect.

Confronted with this unfortunate reality, The HERO Project takes an “all hands on” approach to the problem. Facilitating the partnership of public and private groups will make efficient and responsible use of available resources in order to create viable alternatives for owners who no longer have the means to care for their horses. In addition to animals caught in the economic downturn, there have been several natural disasters in recent history which have exposed the need to provide disaster rescue information to local animal control agencies and owners who might be lacking specific knowledge of animal populations in their areas of responsibility. The Grace Foundation is in the unique position of being able to include an Out-Reach program which addresses problems including micro-chipping, capturing animal information, and available transportation. Kentucky Spring Premier Horse Show Set for April; New Date, Location and Classes Offered in 2010

The 2010 Kentucky Spring Premier Horse Show is scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, through Friday, April 16, and includes significant changes from the previous year’s show.

In particular, the show has been moved to the new state-of-the-art indoor facility at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, the same arena in which parts of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are set to be held later this year. The new arena, footing and stabling are expected to enhance the experience of the participants and their horses. Other changes will include an adjusted competition date to avoid conflicts with the Kentucky Derby, and the addition of new breed sections.

The three-day full schedule includes a wide range of performance classes for Saddlebreds, Hackneys, and Road Horses. New breed divisions added for the 2010 show comprise of Morgans, National Show Horses, Arabians and Half-Arabians Arabians, and Modern Shetlands. Exhibitions will also be offered featuring the Miniature Horse. And, for equitation enthusiasts, the event will host a USEF Saddle Seat Medal qualifier, the National Horse Show Good Hands Class, UPHA Challenge Cup, and Walk/Trot Challenge Cup. Read more
