Equine Unlimited Barn Meeting-December 10, 2009
2009 Show Season-What went well?
- Everyone did a great job
- Team spirit
- More organized-white board, tent, sign, show drapes
- Positive image-more professional-Equine Unlimited was noticed
- Consistent groom
2009 Show Season-Areas for improvement
- Riders need to stay on top of their classes
- More than one trainer needs to attend the shows
- Arrive one day early to acclimate to the show setting
- Watch and learn from other riders
- Equine saddle pads with logo
- Trainer shouldn’t show when clients are showing
- Malinda needs a minimum of 3 riders to attend rated shows
- Trainer split needs to be discussed further-maybe consider an itemized bill for clarity
- Trainers should consider using walkie talkies at the shows instead of cell phones.
- Trainers should not be on their cell phones while riders are in the arena showing
- Cancellation fee of $50.00 if riders do not cancel within 72 hours of the show
- Malinda will order feed/shavings at rated shows
2010 Show Season (a list was passed out at the meeting)
- Plan ahead a month or two
- Review the 2010 Show Season list and let Malinda know which shows you are interested in attending
Barn Rules/suggestions (a list of current barn rules was passed out at the meeting)
- We need a plan to deal with future storms
- Bikes are not safe to ride around the barn-horses are being spooked
- Rules should be enlarged and posted for all to read
- Speak to the Farrier about cleaning up nails
- All parents should review the current list of barn rules with their children
- No children play at the barn after dark
- Report any repairs to Malinda
- Only turn horses out in the turn outs, not the arena
- Put away tack
- Leave a halter on each stall
- Malinda needs to explain the lesson cancellation policy
- Cell phone usage while riding is a concern
- Turn outs should be limited to 20 or 30 minutes
- Maybe a white board should be placed by each turn out to write down the time the horse was turned out, so others can see when the turn out will be available to use
- Lunge in the turn out if it is available instead of in the arena
- If you use Malinda’s tack, please take care of it
- No children are to be dropped off unsupervised at the barn
- A written consent for medical treatment should be filled out (some children are dropped off for lessons, so this would be helpful in case they were injured)
- No dogs off leash
- We need a designated bike riding area
- No running in the barn area
- Any concerns or questions need to be brought to Malinda and not the grounds staff
Footing News
- Sand will be delivered next week
- $15,000 sand
- $3,000 labor
- $3,750 trucking
- Dressage Court in the near future

- Silent Auction

- Pony bridles
- Lights at lower barn
- Trails

Actions

- Dave and Teresa will discuss improving the lower paddock area
- Malinda will post the 2010 Horse Shows
- Malinda and Robin-Equine Logo clothing
- All-if you have extra tack or riding apparel please donate it to Equine Unl.
Storm Plan
- Malinda will make sure all horses in training receive extra schooling rides and/or clients receive extra lessons due to the storm. Some horses have been hand walked in exchange for schooling rides.
Miscellaneous Suggestions
- Have a trainer walk the property daily to check on horses, water, pipes and fences.
- Some type of card box for trainers to write down a few words about how their training sessions went with each horse. This card could be filled out weekly for clients to view.
- No moving of horses, from one stall to another, without owners’ permission
- Any injury should be reported immediately to the owner
- Individual training plans should be reviewed with each client to insure their horses are not being over jumped.
- More regular barn meetings to facilitate open communication
