Be Flexible the Day of the Show

Having a child participate in a horse show is time consuming, exciting and stressful; be prepared to be flexible.   If you are hauling your pony in for a one day show or reserving a stall for a multiple day event, the key to success is flexibility.  Gate times change rapidly, tack turns up missing and children melt in the summer heat.

Plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the show to lunge, groom,  and tack up the pony.  While your child is warming up don’t forget to check in at the office, leave that dreaded blank check and pick up your child’s riding number.  If you’ve hired a groom be kind and specific when communicating your needs.  Grooms are usually responsible for several horses, so be clear and concise in your communication.  With this being said, do not rely on the groom to do all of the work.  There may be times when you need to jump in and help.  Be flexible, get busy and tack your own pony.
